Mission Statement

At Gaylord College we believe that progress begins with a single spark of the imagination and that every student has the potential to be that spark. By challenging complacency, rewarding curiosity and celebrating originality we nurture those who will make a creative difference in our world. Along the way we instill and develop the values of truth, freedom of expression, intellectual and cultural inclusion, critical thinking, creativity, ethics, professional skills, and social responsibility. Both undergraduate and graduate talent grow into communicators who are avid listeners and tenacious storytellers. We believe in the entrepreneurial spirit. We believe in real-world experiential learning. We believe in encouraging students to trust their creative voices. This way we will achieve our mission of connecting superbly equipped minds with meaningful careers.

Internships outside the state are also encouraged. Experience gained through the internship program may take the form of paid or unpaid positions.

Internships Facilitated

Students may arrange their own internships or reach supervisors from the College's extensive contact list. Experience may be full-time or part-time positions with professional communication organizations and departments. The location of OU on the edge of a major metropolitan market in Oklahoma City provides outstanding professional opportunities. Because internships were affected due to the pandemic, students were allowed to complete internships virtually and with on-campus offices.

Experiential and/or Immersion Programs for Credit

Gaylord College students can receive experiences through any of several study abroad programs and travel opportunities. Many of these programs are study abroad*, and are paired with for-credit curriculum before the trip. Immersion programs include: Great Britain; Arrezo, Italy; parts of Asia; and Puerto Rico.
