Mission Statement
This Scripps Howard School is committed to providing its students with a high-quality, well-rounded education while emphasizing fairness, balance, accuracy, integrity and high ethical standards in their work as professionals in the field of journalism and communication. Couched in a strong liberal arts framework and grounded in the University’s mission to develop graduates for professional leadership positions and scholarly service, the School’s curriculum includes both theory and practice.
Technology/Equipment/Facilities
Scripps has a great deal of equipment and a modern facility for students. The building includes a television studio (WHOV-TV) and control room that produces a regular newscast (and other entertainment) for the Hampton Roads area. The building also houses WHOV-FM, a full-service radio station for the area. Classrooms are equipped with Mac and/or PC computers, a Bloomberg news terminal, scrolling info screens.

Tracks within Majors
All majors select a minor or an area of emphasis within their degree program. These are meant to help prepare students to expand their skills and knowledge into areas that touch the field of communication.
Internships Accepted for Credit
All students in Scripps are required to complete at least one internship during their time in the program. Students may take these internships for a maximum of three hours per internship.
Internships Facilitated
In certain situations, Hampton University allows students to complete internal internships with offices/departments that have opportunities that are relevant to the student's major. This includes work as social media coordinators for departments or work with University external relations/public relations.

Study-Abroad Options
Scripps offers occasional study abroad opportunities to nations like China or Italy, where students are able to work with media agencies creating stories that interpret American news for consumers. Students are also able to help media companies in these nations complete productions (by aiding in shooting and/or editing).
