Mission Statement
The Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication is a leader in journalism research and education. The College is home to several prominent centers and institutes, including the Peabody Awards, recognized as the most prestigious award in electronic journalism. Grady’s faculty includes internationally known researchers and respected industry professionals. Alumni include Peabody Award-winning journalists, Emmy Award-winning producers Cannes Lions Award-winning agency creatives and more. Our mission: The College of Journalism and Mass Communication prepares students to be effective and critical consumers, scholars and practitioners of media and communication industries, improves the services these industries provide their consumers and facilitates the public use of the media to meet personal and community needs. Teaching, research and service are all integral parts of this mission.

The college offers five undergraduate certificates in New Media, Sports Media, Strategic Health and Risk Communication, Public Affairs Professional and News Literacy.
Internships Accepted for Credit
Students have the opportunity to earn up to three hours of academic credit while completing an approved and supervised internship.
Internships Facilitated
Supervised programs that provide practical experience for students include Talking Dog, an integrative student-run advertising and public relations agency; The Oglethorpe Echo, a community newspaper staffed by students; and Grady Newsource, broadcast and digital newsroom associated with capstone courses.
Experiential and/or Immersion Programs for Credit
The University of Georgia requires that each graduate complete at least one approved experiential learning unit. Grady majors have myriad experiences, including capstone courses, internships and study abroad. Beyond those officially designated to satisfy the experiential learning requirement, Grady students have many other opportunities for experiential work.
