Mission Statement

The Mississippi State University Department of Communication prepares students through scholarship, creative practice, and ethical and cultural awareness to be empowered professional artists and communicators.

Technology/Equipment/Facilities

The Department is located in McComas Hall. McComas Hall features 10 classrooms, a theatre, and 34 faculty offices. The Digital Media Center (library) features equipment check-out.The Digital Media Center (tv), radio and newspaper are in separate buildings. The DMC includes an HD television studio and control room. Classroom and podcast room. Across the quad is an FM radio station and newspaper producing digital and print content. MSU students have Adobe free software for their academic work.

Internships Accepted for Credit

On-and off-campus internships are accepted for credit through an internship application process. Internships are encouraged but not required. Up to 3 hours of academic credit may be earned via working in a degree-related paid or unpaid professional internship.

Internships Facilitated

The Internship coordinator assists students seeking and completing internships.

Experiential and/or Immersion Programs for Credit

Students may participate in school or university immersion programs such as Study Abroad, media or PR-related experiential or immersion programs. Many courses are designated as experiential or service-learning courses, such as capstone classes in the broadcast, journalism, and public relations concentrations.

Online Options

Public Relations and Communication & Media Studies are the current undergraduate programs that, in addition to in-person, are offered online.

Study-Abroad Options

Both the University and the unit offer Study Abroad options. The unit participates in a consortium with recent offerings in the British Studies program.
