Mission Statement

Technology/Equipment/Facilities

The College’s (CCI) Office of Student Media includes newspaper, video, and magazine brands. Three learning labs in Journalism & Media include TV and radio studios, and documentary production. Advertising/PR houses a social media lab with professional data analysis and brand listening capabilities. CCI includes an NPR station. Equipment rooms allow check-out of updated audio and video technology.

Bachelor of Science in Advertising Bachelor of Science in Journalism & Media Bachelor of Science in Public Relations; 4+1 programs available for all degrees.

Graduate Degrees Offered

Master of Science in Communication & Information (with concentrations in Advertising, Journalism & Media, Public Relations, and Strategic & Digital Communication). PhD in Communication and Information.

Internships Accepted for Credit

Advertising or Public Relations students may complete one or more 400-level internships where 50 hours of work equal one credit hour, but this is not required. Journalism & Media students are required to complete a 400-level, two-credit hour practicum with a minimum of 150 hours of work. J&M seniors may complete additional practicums or internships; internships require 30 hours per week of work.

Internships Facilitated

The College’s Career Development Office organizes regular job and internship fairs, with additional informal events that allow students in the unit to meet professionals. The office provides career development counseling and assistance with social media networking, resumes, and portfolios. Students may identify their own internship opportunities, which must be approved in advance.

Experiential and/or Immersion Programs for Credit

Students in the unit participate in opportunities locally, regionally, and across the country. All internships and practicums are monitored by a faculty member. Supervisors of students in the workplace provide evaluations of how well students apply knowledge and skills on the job. Students often participate in immersive professional activities during study abroad experiences.

Online Options

Master of Science in Communication & Information - Strategic & Digital Communication emphasis. Additional undergraduate courses are occasionally taught online.

Study-Abroad Options

The unit offers study-abroad programs in Dublin, Ireland; London, United Kingdom; Prague, Czech Republic; Rome, Italy; Siena, Italy; and Valencia, Spain.

Graduate Programs

Masters students focus on Advertising, Journalism & Media, or Public Relations. 4+1 programs (UT undergraduate takes some graduate-level courses as a senior, then completes an MS in one year) are available for each. An online MS concentrating in Strategic & Digital Communication is available. PhD students in Communication & Information focus their studies within one School within the College.
