Mission Statement
To educate students to think and act as responsible professionals and ethical citizens in a global community; to help students develop competencies necessary to prepare them for professional employment or advanced studies; and to develop skilled professional communicators who understand their social, legal and ethical responsibilities, and their career opportunities in a technological society.
Technology/Equipment/Facilities
Two dedicated classrooms (one is multi-configurable with 16 MacPro laptops), modern broadcast studio (Newtek-Tricastar Production System), equipment room (30 video/30 photo cameras,16 360-degree cameras, 18 mobile video kits, 12 audio recorders, sports zoom lenses) equipment check-out system, state-of-the-art newsroom with 32 i-Mac computer workstations loaded with Apple Final Cut Pro and Adobe Creative suite software, Skiff newspaper, Ad-Sales Lab, and podcast studio.

Internships Accepted for Credit
Students are encouraged, but not required, to engage in supervised internships for course credit (JOUR 40450). All internships must be approved by the chair of the department. Each intern must record a minimum of 75 hours at workplace in order to earn one semester credit hour. A maximum of 3 credit hours can be earned in one semester. Students applying for internships must have a minimum of 2.5 GPA plus a minimum of 9 semester hours in journalism skills courses.
Internships Facilitated
Students on internships have the option to work in media/journalism (print/electronic/online) organizations or in public relations/advertising industries (including PR/Advertising units of other organizations).
Experiential and/or Immersion Programs for Credit
Students are encouraged to work in our modern Student Media newsroom under the banner of TCU360 (https://tcu360.com/). We also have a semester-long Washington DC Program where they intern with media organizations.

Study-Abroad Options
Students have the opportunity to travel abroad to do independent study under our agreement with the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting (https://pulitzercenter.org/). They can also go on independent study-abroad approved by the department. We are working on a department-led study abroad.
