Mission Statement

In line with the values, mission, and vision of the Faculty of Communications, as well as the profile of graduates proposed for the UC journalist, the School of Journalism’s mission is to train professionals with a vocation of service to society and ethical awareness; with the skills and standards for the processing and dissemination of socially relevant content; and whose work is essential to democracy, needs and promotes transparency, the free flow of ideas, and rational discussion to build a better life for all.

Technology/Equipment/Facilities

Students can access classrooms, computer rooms, radio and television studios, and study rooms.The school has an annual budget for equipment and the purchase of books (managed by the library system). Students can use 79 computers in the Faculty and many others in the Campus. Also we have a complete audiovisual and sound equipment to fully furnish television studios and three radio studios.

Internships Accepted for Credit

The curriculum demands that students complete two internships (one internal in the School's media and the other external). They have no credits, but students cannot graduate if they have not completed them.

Internships Facilitated

The internal internship implies working in a journalistic project supervised by one or more teachers during at least 20 hours. The external internship considers a supervision by a teacher as well as from an editor from the company in which the student is working.

Experiential and/or Immersion Programs for Credit

Experiential programs are offered as optative courses and demand that the student has completed at least one Workshop. This courses have credits. Additionally, students can volunteer to participate in the School's radio and digital magazine. These participations are evaluated, but not graded and do not have credits.
