Mission Statement
The Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication is committed to a philosophy that draws its goals from the larger purposes of a land grant university as well as its accrediting organization, the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications (ACEJMC). The School strives to serve students, the university, professional communicators and the general public of Iowa, the nation and the world through teaching, scholarship, service and professional outreach activities that: Educate students for careers in journalism and mass communication. Promote an understanding and appreciation of the First Amendment and the role of journalism and communication in all societies. Foster theoretical and applied scholarship that improves the practice of journalism and communication. Emphasize communication in an increasingly diverse and multicultural world. Promote accountability and ethical performance. Increase communication effectiveness in a fast-changing technological society. Engage in substantial service to the University, the profession and the public.
Technology/Equipment/Facilities
The Greenlee School offers students access to an IT center, digital newsroom with television studio, photography studio, audio lab, focus group room, open computer labs and meeting rooms throughout the building. Lab computers are installed with industry leading software and students can check out equipment for course work, such as professional digital cameras, microphones, light kits and VR headsets.

Internships Accepted for Credit
Greenlee School majors are required to complete ADVRT/JL MC/P R 499A: Professional Media Internship as their capstone class. An internship must meet strict guidelines that ensures students receive professional experience in fields related to their degrees that will help them find employment after graduation and build portfolios of work to use in their job searches. The internship experience is monitored to ensure each internship experience meets these expectations and stated learning goals.
Internships Facilitated
Students identify and secure their own required internships. The Greenlee School supports students by hosting bi-annual Jumpstart Internship and Networking Fairs and weekly internship opportunity email newsletters.

Online Options
Some individual courses in the Greenlee School are designed for and offered online. There is no fully online degree offered.
Study-Abroad Options
The Greenlee School works with the LAS Study Abroad Program to offer a study abroad experience at the University of Urbino in Urbino, Italy. Other study abroad options are available through the LAS Study Abroad program.
