Mission Statement
The Department of Journalism and Digital Communication, a “Program of Distinction” at the USF St. Petersburg campus, strives for teaching excellence, supports faculty and student research and community and professional service, and promotes multicultural understanding. We work untiringly to graduate accomplished students who can make valuable contributions to and understand the workings of their chosen fields and to be excellent and active citizens. Internships Accepted for Credit
Undergraduate students may complete up to six credit hours of internship (generally two 3-credit, semester-long opportunities) at approved sites. Interns must conduct 120 contact hours and are overseen by site supervisors and a full-time faculty member. Internship credit counts toward elective requirements.
Internships Facilitated
Select students complete internships in our Neighborhood News Bureau and in our on-campus videography studio, VideoWorks.
Experiential and/or Immersion Programs for Credit
In addition to internship opportunities, all undergraduate students must complete one semester working in Neighborhood News Bureau, a working newsroom covering traditionally under served areas in South St. Petersburg, Florida.
Online Options
Students complete some required coursework (VIC 3001, MMC 3602) online, in addition to a substantial offering of elective courses.
Study-Abroad Options
Students have completed Study Abroad in Germany and France as part of our food writing and photography elective curriculum.
