Mission Statement

We at the BYU School of Communications are a consecrated community of disciples, scholars, and mentors who strive to walk in the meekness of Christ's spirit, as we inspire learning through love, faith, and service that prepares each child of God to share light and hope with the world.

Technology/Equipment/Facilities

AdLab: RED Dragon 5k camera; BlackMagic 6k cameras. PR Intelligence Lab: social media monitoring (Syntesio, Brandwatch, BuzzSumo); Newsroom and TV studio; 4K studio cameras; Teradek live remote systems; audio production studios; Sony NX 100 HD cameras; Panasonic UX 180 4k cameras; Canon 6D kits; Sony NEX 50 cameras; Canon C100 Mark II camera; DJI drones; light, mic, and tripod kits; BioComms lab: eye-tracking, facial recognition, galvanic skin response, electroencephalogram, virtual reality.

The School is active in off-campus experiential learning. Every year, it sponsors off campus learning experiences in either New York, New Zealand, Europe, or South America. It also sponsors public affairs internships in Europe.

Study-Abroad Options

New York Experience (a spring term in New York City); New Zealand study abroad; Spain study abroad; Europe study abroad; multiple ad hoc studies abroad built around projects.

Graduate Programs

The School of Communications offers a broad-based master’s program designed to promote critical thinking and research with a particular focus on the interface between media and society. This program is a unique, customizable experience. Students specialize in an area of their choice by completing research in that area under the guidance of a faculty member who shares their interests.
