Mission Statement
The mission of the Department of Journalism is to foster in its students the skills, values, and practices associated with professional journalism and strategic communication; to further their understanding of how those attributes intersect with local, national and global citizenship; to demand critical thinking; to challenge them to be the creators and leaders in a constantly changing communication environment, and to fully engage with diverse audiences.
Technology/Equipment/Facilities
The department has one computer lab classroom that is used exclusively by Journalism, and first access to a second classroom lab for skills classes. The department owns and lends an extensive array of camera and video equipment to students in relevant classes.

Tracks within Majors
Internships Accepted for Credit
Programs in Advertising, Photojournalism, and Public Relations concentration all require a 3-credit internship. Journalism students may earn three credits through an internship, but they can also take a 3-credit course that is also designed to build real-world practical skills.
Internships Facilitated
Some students serve their internship with CM Life, the student newspaper. Advertising, Photojournalism, and Journalism Majors might serve their internship with CM Life. Journalism Majors have the option of a course where they complete professional work guided by a faculty member.
Experiential and/or Immersion Programs for Credit
Students can apply practical knowledge and skills learned in classes in internships, service learning projects, practicum opportunities as well as a variety or in-class assignments and experiences.
Online Options
Study-Abroad Options
The department has close associations with China Daily, Beijing, and with Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. However, students are encouraged to take advantage of a host of study abroad opportunities offered through the International Education Office

Comments on Quantitative Numbers
Without clearer instructions, we were unsure of the amount of expenditure per student. It costs about $200 to deliver a credit hour per student, which would be $600 for a 3-credit hour class.
