Mission Statement
Emphasis is on giving students the opportunity to develop ethical communication competency through academic and artistic performance, study, internships and co-curricular involvement. Faculty and department administration are expected to contribute to this student mission through academic leadership, quality teaching and advising, and participation in scholarship, creative presentation, and community projects.
Technology/Equipment/Facilities
The unit includes two computer labs (one Mac, one PC) featuring 20 computers each. The computers are equipped with the Adobe Creative Cloud suite. The unit features a television production room, a TV studio, and two audio production rooms with audio, video, and live production equipment. Students have access to electronic news gathering equipment including microphones and cameras.

Internships Accepted for Credit
Students are required to take COM 499 Internship for 1 - 3 credit-hours at a location of their choosing. The faculty member approves the internship. Students are required to work 50 internship-hours per credit-hour. The course is repeatable up to 6 credit-hours.
Internships Facilitated
In Spring 2021, 23 students conducted an internship. In Fall 2021, 21 students are enrolled in internships (as of 10/18/21).

Online Options
The department has offered many courses online during the COVID pandemic, but the university's emphasis has returned to in-person instruction. Therefore, the unit has prioritized in-person course delivery as its standard delivery format.
Study-Abroad Options
All study abroad opportunities are on hold at the university during the COVID pandemic. However, the unit has offered recent study abroad courses to China, New Zealand, and UK/Ireland. The unit supports study abroad and has plans to resume such instruction when allowed.
