Internships Accepted for Credit
All students in the School of Communications are required to complete at least one for-credit internship before they graduate. Most students complete a 2-credit-hour internship based on 80 work-hours per credit hour at a professional off-campus site. Students work with the internship director to register and document their experiences through a series of guided assignments that bridge the academic experience to the internship.
Internships Facilitated
Elon requires that internships are completed in a professional setting, in-person, fully remote, or hybrid. The school has a full-time internship director available to help students year-round. The school is proactive to ensure internships by making site visits to New York, Los Angeles, Charlotte, Boston, Washington, D.C., and other cities and keeping in contact with students on the job.
Experiential and/or Immersion Programs for Credit
All students are required to complete a professional internship for academic credit, translating to 100% of graduates with at least one internship. At Elon, 85% of students study away (Study Abroad and Study USA) by the time they graduate.
Online Options
The School of Communications offers online courses in summer school only, a practice that is consistent with the residential and educational mission of Elon University.
Study-Abroad Options
Elon's Global Education Center supports numerous Study Abroad and Study USA programs and the recruitment of international students, faculty and staff. Elon is ranked the nation's #1 master's-level university for study abroad by the Institute of International Education.
